NO LUNCHEON MEETING this week… instead we will have a social sponsored by Dartmouth College that will involve a field trip to the Rauner Special Collections Library beginning at 5pm followed by dinner at the '53 Commons dining hall. 

 
LAST WEEK'S ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
Dick Podolec announced that he had convened a meeting of the Membership Committee. 
 
Liam McCarthy sought additional bell ringers for the Friday home game at Dartmouth. He also reminded club members that the auction was only 2 weeks away.Liam also offered a recap of the decisions made at the recent Board meeting, announcing that the Board approved the philanthropy committee’s framework prepared by Heidi Postpack and the subsequent decision to provide grants to High Horses and the Hanover Garden Club, The Board is also looking to re-launch a Roteract Club. 
 
Julia Griffin offered a Happy Dollar in recognition of the hard work done by Dick and Melanie Podolec in organizing and arranging the details for the Rotary Friendship Exchange.  Len Cadwallader offered a Happy Dollar in recognition for Kathy Geraghty’shusband and Jed Williamson for joining him on a service trip. 
 
This week’s raffle prize of $10 off at Jesse’s was won by… Len Cadwallader
 
Bruce Atwood was inducted as a new member joining fellow Rockport, Illinois transplant Mike Urzenis.  
 
LAST WEEK'S PROGRAM
 
Carol Olwert introduced Cam Ford, the Executive Director of Headrest, who offered the second in a series of talks on the opioid crisis in the Upper Valley. Cam reviewed data on addiction, noting that 9.4% of the general population have some form of substance abuse disorder. He described the services offered by Headrest in two different locations: at a residential treatment facility in Lebanon and at an inpatient and outpatient clinic at APD. He reported that one of the services offered by Headrest, a suicide prevention line, averages 150 calls per month. He described the Lebanon facility, which provides 14 beds at its Church street location in in Lebanon. The services at the facility include counselling, opportunities for work, and vocational rehabilitation services. Headrest partners with Doorway as part of New Hampshire’s “hub and spoke system” which provides its clients with lots of agencies that enable them to meet the unique needs of each patient. COMING ATTRACTIONS
 
November 6 – Graham Clarkewill give us an update on Whaleback’s latest developments.
November 13 – Auction Debrief with our team leaders providing closure on our biggest fundraiser and, possibly, some talks from our newest Rotarians. 
 
November 20 – Valley News editor Maggie Cassidy may be our speaker… but based on email exchanges it is possible that changes may be imminent.  
 
There will be no meeting on November 27, the day before Thanksgiving, as many will be preparing for the festivities or traveling on that day. 
 
AND… looking ahead, circle January 22 when Dartmouth President Hanlon briefs us on the college’s latest developments.
