  • The $18 lunch will include three meal options (fish, meat, vegetarian) and the soup, salad, dessert, and drink bar will be available.
  • We WILL continue ZOOMING the meetings, with the “broadcast” beginning at 12:30.

At the outset of the meeting, Todd Allen asked two new members—Bill Bittinger and Rob Williams--- who joined during the Zoom era to introduce themselves.

Todd Allen also offered 10 seedlings on a first-come-first-served basis to club members, seedlings provided by the District Governor to recognize the attainment of a goal set to address environmental concerns.

Todd Allen reminded club members that their dues were due by the end of June.

Tom Csatari encouraged members to contribute to the Rotary Foundation.

Mort Wise offered a Happy Dollar to celebrate his move into a new condo in Hanover.

The Raffle Management Team offered ten dollars in the name of Carolyn Watson, whose ticket was drawn. Alas, no qualifying questions were required for the award.

DONATIONS IN LIEU OF MEALS

REMINDER: Here’s the link to make your donation in lieu of paying for meals at Jesse’s AND the place to donate your Happy Dollars! As Todd announced at the meeting last week, the funds will be earmarked for Willing Hands. https://hanovernhrotary.ejoinme.org/COVID-19. We now have $4,000 in donations but Todd is hoping we can get an additional $1,000 by the end of June when a new beneficiary will be announced.

LAST WEEK’S PROGRAM

Len Cadwallader introduced fellow ACTS Honduras member Mike Harris who offered an overview of the organizations’ work in that desperately destitute Central American country. Mike explained the mission of the organization, which is largely comprised of the 25+ individuals from the Upper Valley who have volunteered their time and expertise to improving the quality of life in El Rosario, a small mountainous village located 2 ½ hours on a dirt road from any form of civilization. While he and other volunteers helped launch schools, libraries, and infrastructure projects the overarching goal of ACTS Honduras is to empower the villagers to help themselves by sustaining the initiatives. At the same time, ACTS provides medical services like cancer screening and dental care that would not be otherwise available.

Mike Harris also described the daunting challenges communities like El Rosario face due to drought, hurricanes, the lack of education, and the lack of community spirit. He noted that while many of the infrastructure projects require skills in the building trades, the needs are so great that volunteers like him can offer help in organizing schools and volunteers like Rubi Simon can provide help in developing a library.
