THIS WEEK:

Nine Meyer, the founder of Positive Tracks headquartered here in Hanover. Nini is a long time Lyme resident who grew up in the Upper Valley. We'll hear the steps she took to turn this not profit into quite a powerhouse in youth philanthropy.

LAST WEEK'S ANNOUNCEMENTS:
  • Nan Carroll thanked the club members for their help with the auction and encouraged us to be "role models" in our decorum at the auction, making certain that we encouraged folks to look at the auction items early and often.
  • President Tom displayed a "Rotarian at Work" T-shirt that he predicted would be a coveted prize in the raffle.
  • President Tom also offered thanks to Heidi Postpack for arranging the food for the previous week's meeting at the Howe with the Polish exchange students. He reported that the students appreciated the chance to share their views on our country, and read a letter of appreciation from Hanover High School teacher Tom Cochran for our work in supporting the exchange.
  • Dave Allen passed along the news that the Rotary Club we contributed to in South Africa thanks us for our donation to their pre school, which they hope to open in the near future once they secure enough funding.
  • Our club welcomed a new member, Allison Sherman, who will be invited to share her story at a future meeting.
  • And... this week's raffle winner was Dick Booma, who was thrilled to win three chances to ring the bell for Listen! He assured club members he would be signing up for those opportunities at the beginning of the Christmas season, before the winds blow and the snow flies.
  • Brian Cook, who later spoke on behalf of Revels North where he serves as Executive Director, updated the club on his daughters experience as our exchange student. As promised, Brian provided me with this link to her blog, which offers lots of insights on her experiences... And as you will see when you take the time to look at the blog, lots of readers are following Julia which means lots of readers are learning how Rotary is helping one young woman learn a lot about another culture and about herself!
LAST WEEK'S PROGRAM

I had the pleasure of introducing Brian Cook in his capacity as Executive Director of Revels North. Brian opened by describing his his daughter Julia's experience as a Revelers and . described her experience in Revels and introduced Nils Fredlund, Revels Artistic Director.

Nils offered a historical perspective of Revels North and gave an overview of this years show, which is set in Venice during the Renaissance. He offered a sample of the kind of music that will be featured in the show and, impressed with the way we sung Happy Birthday, led the club in Dona Nobis Pacem. He concluded his presentation by teaching the club members an Italian hand gesture to illustrate the kind of educational features that are included in a Revels performance and recited part of The Longest Day, a poem that traditionally ends each performance.
