LAST WEEK’S ANNOUNCEMENTS

FIRST AND FOREMOST, Todd Allen reminded club members that we will be returning to live meetings at Jesse’s in June. Rumor has it that we will be able to simulcast with Zoom. Details on how the format for meetings will be announced in the weeks ahead.

Todd Allen also shared some sad news: New member and Kendall resident Gary Martin passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. He had 60 years as a Rotary Club member and he and his wife operated summer camps in Connecticut before retiring in New Hampshire.

David Allen offered a Happy Dollar to celebrate his son’s new job working in the finance department at Dartmouth College.

Ginia Allison contributed 25 Happy Dollars in honor of the work Gary Martin did as a leader of summer camps.

Dave Bradley gave 7 Happy Dollars in honor of his family members who attended his birthday.

The Raffle Management Team offered ten dollars in the name of Tom Csatari who answered a tough question that affirmed the fun one has as a greeter when Rotary Club meets in person, an admittedly transparent ploy to recruit Rotarians for that task beginning in June.

DONATIONS IN LIEU OF MEALS

REMINDER: Here’s the link to make your donation in lieu of paying for meals at Jesse’s AND the place to donate your Happy Dollars! As Todd announced at the meeting last week, the funds will be earmarked for Willing Hands. https://hanovernhrotary.ejoinme.org/COVID-19.

LAST WEEK’S PROGRAM

Wayne Gersen introduced Lori Gosselin who gave a talk about her book and training seminars on community building. In her talk she explained the difference between team building and community building. Team building is coerced, focuses on strategy and outcomes. Community building seeks commitment, tries to change culture, and builds camaraderie. Community building is transformative while team building is more focused on results of the based on the existing paradigm. She offered seven pillars of community: commitment; inclusivity; authenticity; mutual support; shared leadership; collaboration; and camaraderie. She suggested that an organization can become a “community” organically—through regular meetings; spontaneously--- in response to a crisis; or intentionally. She suggested her book and training sessions would provide the framework to develop intentional community.

FINALLY, I will be needing some coverage for a handful of meetings. In the pre-pandemic ear David Allen often helped out in this capacity, but he will be leading the meetings for the next year. Anyone interested in taking notes in my absence, please reply to me via email: wgersen@hotmail.com. I will provide a template you can use to provide the information I’ll need for the Newsletter.
