THIS WEEK’S PROGRAM

Dave Allen introduces Charlie Wheelan from Dartmouth College who will talk about his latest book, The Rationing: A Novel. Charlie’s talks are always entertaining and thought provoking. I hope to see you Wednesday!

LAST WEEK'S ANNOUNCEMENTS

Tom Csatari made his last official announcements as President. He opened by turning the floor over to Denise Dahlberg who thanked the 32 Rotarians who came to the 4thof July cook-out and parade, offering special kudos to John Hochreiterfor his yeoman’s effort transporting grills. She reported a net profit of $758 and indicated that the left over food went to the Haven.

Wayne Gersen introduced the Andrew Postupack-Rotary Scholarship winner, Dakota Hanchett. Dakota accrued over 4000 hours of community service during his high school years, primarily with the Norwich Fire Department, and recently accrued 500+ hours with the Thetford Fire Department. He was accompanied by his parents and brother and two teachers from Marion Cross Elementary—Jeanne Woodward-Poor and John Minelli-- who had fond memories of his work at that school. Wayne expressed his appreciation for the hard work done by Heidi Postupack, who organized the review process with the guidance staff at Hanover High and did a lot of the leg work.

President Csatari solicited volunteers to join him on the parking detail at the Prouty, promising any volunteers the opportunity to wear a bright yellow vest with the Rotary wheel on the back.

In his final act as President, Tom Csatari introduced new member Greg Bazylwicz. Greg shared his academic and professional background, which included several years as a family practitioner and hospital administrator in Manchester-by-the-Sea.

Dave Bradley offered a happy dollar for being able to participate for the 34thtime in the Prouty, where he will be joined with his grandson and son.

Teri Minelli offered a happy dollar in honor of going to Cleveland to visit her daughter and for Dakota Hanchett’s well deserved scholarship.

Wayne Gersen contributed a happy dollar in appreciation of the members who stepped up to help schedule speakers… which at the time were booked through September.

Phil McCaull won the raffle and got a confusing prize: it was either $10 or $30. Maybe the mystery will be solved by the time we meet this week.

LAST WEEK'S PROGRAM

Liam McCarthy thanked Tom Csatari for his excellent leadership over the past year, noting his efficient time management at Board meetings, his good spirit in leading the weekly meetings, and his innovation of convening quarterly fellowship activities, an innovation he planned to continue in the future.

Liam shared his experience as Rotary member, indicating he was originally in the Lebanon Club before joining ours nearly eight years ago. He set three goals for the coming year:
  1. To “demystify Rotary” in the community.
  2. To reinstate the Roteract program at Hanover High School
  3. And to reinvigorate our club’s commitment to global issues

Liam offered some specific examples of how he intends to address these goals, indicating that he has arranged for an article about our club to appear in the Here in Hanovermagazine; asked Deecie Denison to tell us about the PICS program her club in California sponsored in their nearby high school; and wants us to use Rotary’s grant matching, following the example of one of our newest members, Dave Allen

Finally, Liam asked club members to support him in four specific ways:
  1. Recognize that the new, improved auction is “game changer” and commit to helping it be successful in every way possible
  2. Bring a friend to a meeting
  3. Help identify good speakers for our meetings
  4. Lend a hand whenever possible--- not just for the auction, but for ALL of the events we sponsor.
Liam has given us a clear blueprint for success and taken steps to implement his plans. Let’s help him make 2019-2020 even more successful than last year!
