We'll meet this Wednesday 7/9 at the Paganucci Room ( '53 Commons ) at Dartmouth at 11:45. Our speaker will be Sociology Professor Emeritus John Campbell, who has written on economic and political sociology, comparative political economies, and energy and tax policy. His talk to us is entitled "Are Taxes Too High in America?"
At our last meeting we heard from Bridget Mudge, who is a long term board member of the Hanover Community Nurses and Nina Lloyd, who is one of the 2 Community Nurses in Hanover. Bridget asked for ideas of how to spread the word about the services available to Hanover residents from the 2 community nurses, Doris Yates and Nina Lloyd.
We also heard from Brenda Haynes about the Norwich Community Nurse program. Brenda told us about the services of the Norwich town nurse and the medical equipment that is available for Norwich townspeople. While Hanover budgets for their two nurses, Norwich offers only a limited amount of financial support and the balance of the needed funds is raised by Brenda and others. Thank you!
Information about the Community Nurse Program:
In the spirit of spreading the word, here is some info from the town of Hanover:
Community Nurses work with residents, their families, health professionals, and caregivers to provide access to healthcare to meet physical, emotional, and social needs. These free services help Hanover residents live at home, safely and independently as possible. Free Community Nurse Services Include:
- Home visits to assess current health care needs
- Provide health education, resource information and referrals
- Serve as an advocate for medical needs
- Develop and work toward personal health & life goals
- Develop and communicate care plans with family members, if desired
- Help to schedule medical appointments and obtain medical equipment
Other News:
On June 27 many Hanover Rotarians attended the Memorial Service for our own Dave Bradley. Two of Dave's sons gave loving, thoughtful and often funny eulogies for their dad. A highlight of the service was our own Henry Danaher's absolutely stirring organ music. There was not a dry eye in the church when Henry played the recessional. The Hanover community, as well as our club, are fortunate to have someone as talented as Henry among us. He is truly remarkable.
Upcoming speakers:
July 23 - Wayne Gerson, former Dresden School District Superintendent and Hanover Rotarian and now current Valley News columnist will give us some compelling thoughts about public education. No shortage of opinions and ideas on that subject.
Sorry, no photo in today's bulletin...formatting issues!! Here's to the learning curve for this editor.
