LAST WEEK’S PROGRAM

Todd Allen introduced Peter Gregory of the Twin Rivers Outaquechee Regional Commission (TRORC), one of 11 regional planning agencies in the state. Peter explained how the 10-12 staff members in the Commission provide help to the towns they serve by offering expertise in “traditional” areas such as planning, economic development, permitting, transit planning, grant management and zoning issues as well as newer issues like emergency management, energy conservation and sustainability, and public health consultation. The Commission employees have a wide range of skill sets with backgrounds in forestry, public administration, and economics. He noted that in addition to securing government funds to help with its operation, TRORC) has created a Foundation which enables it to apply for grants that would not be available to a governmental entity.

Peter highlighted future directions the TRORC plans to take, which will include more focus on energy issues, dealing with hazard mitigation, public health planning, and affordable housing.
