THIS WEEK’S PROGRAM

will introduce our State Senator Martha Hennessey who will provide us with some insights on the New Hampshire’s legislature’s role in addressing the challenges posed by the pandemic with a focus on how the CARES funds have been used to date. I'm looking forward to getting a closer-to-home perspective on COVID 19.

LAST WEEK’S ANNOUNCEMENTS

President Todd Allen announced that he planned to work with Dartmouth’s Roteract leader Michelle Sun, to create what he called a “mutual mentoring” program whereby we might offer Dartmouth students with some insights on careers and our “life experience” while we might benefit from learning about the world of technology Dartmouth students have been immersed in from their birth and their perspectives on the world.

Todd also shared his idea for a possible social-distance-social-gathering at a nearby YMCA camp, Camp Conniston in Grantham. He is working with the Camp’s executive director John Tilley to see if something could be arranged for late August.

Tom Csatari offered a Happy Dollar in honor of the funds raised through the Virtual Prouty, which brought in nearly as much as in years past.

David Allen won the virtual raffle: a $10 discount when we return to Jesse’s reopens.

DONATIONS IN LIEU OF MEALS

Yet another reminder to club members to consider making donations to the club’s COVID 19 Fund in lieu of paying for lunches at Jesse’s, Here’s the link to make your donation!  https://hanovernhrotary.ejoinme.org/COVID-19

LAST WEEK’S PROGRAM

David Allen introduced Lia Rubel, an 18 year-old rising sophomore from Barre Vermont who attends Emory College in Atlanta, GA. Ms. Rubel shared information on Telehealth for Seniors, an initiative she and several other civic minded students launched that provides used electronic equipment to seniors to assist them with obtaining access to telehealth services. In addition to providing used phones with video capability, iPads, and laptops, Telehealth for Seniors provides tech support, training, and tutors for the end users to call when things don’t go according to plan. Ms. Rubel reported that Telehealth for Seniors covers 26 states and uses the services of 260 volunteers. In Vermont, Ms. Rubel coordinates the efforts of 8 fellow students, most of whom focus their efforts on those who use the Veterans Hospital in WRJ. She also noted that Telehealth for Seniors does not rely solely on used equipment. In Vermont, for example, she received over $10,000 in donated funds that were used to acquire new phones.

At the conclusion of her presentation, Ms. Rubel encouraged Rotarians to donate any old technology that includes a camera or consider a donation to her organization. Here’s the link:

She noted that donations should click on Donate button where a drop down menu can direct the donated funds or equipment to a particular venue.

As I mentioned last week, I thought this article on telemedicine by the New Yorker’s John Seabrook might be of interest, particularly given the references to DHMC’s leadership in this area:
