LAST WEEK’S SPEAKER:

Wayne Gersen offered an optimistic perspective on 2022, suggesting it will be “…the year that democracy and civil engagement returned to our country”. This is the premise of an OSHER course he plans to offer in Spring, 2022. The talk opened with evidence that humans are, in the words of Dutch historian Rutger Bregman, “fundamentally decent’, followed by a description of how the Powell Memorandum brought us to the point where we are today. It concluded with evidence that the tide is turning away from contentiousness and offered some ideas on what we might be able to do to help that change.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Wayne Gersen reminded club members that the GoFundMe page for LISTEN was still operational and donations would be accepted through the end of the calendar year.

Happy Dollars were offered by Jim Bonney for passing a COVID test and by Dave Bradley for the opportunity to spend time with this Great Granddaughter clutching his finger.
