LAST WEEK’S PROGRAM

Rachel Brooks, a Rotary International Peace Scholar who attended Dartmouth, shared he experiences with the club. A first generation college graduate, Rachel expressed her gratitude to the Rotary Foundation for offering a scholarship for “Peace Studies”, which are few and far between. She described her experiences living and studying in Bradford England, which is a very international community. As part of the scholarship, Rachel was paired with a local host family who helped her find her way around the community and provided her with a sense of the region that would not have been otherwise available to her. She was also able to network with over 1300 Peace Fellowship alumni who are working all over the world in a wide range of NGOs and government roles. Her work is focusing on the intersection of Democracy, Technology and Peace which she is doing through workshops and connecting with other graduate students interested in the same ideas.

I came away with a sense that Rotary International IS making a difference in the world by offering young men and women like Rachel a chance to pursue advanced studies abroad and connecting with like-minded individuals from countries around the globe. I expect we will be reading about Rachel in the future.
