LAST WEEK’S PROGRAM

John Hochreiter, the elected Assistant District Governor, introduced this year’s District Governor Jamie Milne who is currently a member of the St. Johnsbury, Vermont Rotary Club. The Milne family's ties to Rotary began decades when Jamie’s dad joined and eventually became District Governor in the 1970s. Jamie noted that it is easy to join Rotary but requires a commitment to stay in the club, and encouraged everyone to keep that commitment despite the challenges it might present. He sought information on our club’s status and then asked members to share what they believed the Hanover Club would look like in the future. My takeaway from the feedback: we benefitted from the visioning we did a few years ago and see ourselves as a club with a core of 20+ members who are seeking ways to broaden membership and engagement of members in the future.

District Governor Milne shared a wealth of information on Rotary International, the rebranding of the Club, and the cultural shift underway which is reflected in the election of Rotary’s first woman president. He noted a marked increase in Interact and Roteract membership, which he hoped was a sign of increased interest by younger generations.

Coming Attractions for September and early October:

September 23 – Todd Allen will introduce Arnon Mishkin of Fox News Surveys who will, I am confident, have some timely news to share!

September 30 – Todd Allen will introduce Peter Gregory of the Twin Rivers Outaquechee Regional Commission

October 7 – Todd Allen will introduce Rory Gawler of the Dartmouth Outing Club

October 14 – As noted above, Todd Allen and his wife will host a socially distanced social gathering at his sheep farm on Jericho Road in Hartford on October 14. Details will be forthcoming.

Do YOU have any ideas for speakers? We’d love to hear them! Thanks to Dick Podolec for offering some good leads…
