I spoke with John McKeon of Polar Latitudes today who is looking for some help.  I asked him to put his request in an email that I could share with the membership.  Here it is:

Some background for your membership:  Polar Latitudes is a company based in WRJ that operates cruises to Antarctica.  We have been happily supporting Rotary philanthropy with voyage donations, and in fact the last Rotary auction winner and I stepped off the Dartmouth Coach together last March just as the pandemic hit with full impact and our business has been in shutdown since.

I don’t have to sail again until next November but we are making operations and safety protocol decisions now with the goal of operating safely next year.

My request for help is that I am seeking someone or some group who can help me construct a statistical analysis.  My ship, when full, carries 200 people - passengers, staff and crew.  If everyone on board is required to have been vaccinated with a vaccine rated at 95% efficacy what would the odds of an infection transmission be? And further, given our average passenger age of 62 what would the odds of an infection becoming life threatening be?

I understand there will be many questions and some assumptions need to be made but this information would be very helpful to us.  As such I am happy to discuss this with anyone who might be interested.

I appreciate your help.  Many thanks.

John can be reached at johnm@polar-latitudes.com and 802.760.6789

Thanks.
