LAST WEEK’S ANNOUNCEMENTS

David Allen provided three ways club members could connect lion-line with Hanover Rotary: myrotary.org; the district website; and the Rotary Club of Hanover’s Facebook page. He followed through with links in an email sent over the past week.

John Hochreiter noted there were only two documented cases of polio in the entire world, due in large measure to Rotary’s efforts. He urged club members to make contributions to RI International to put a complete and total end to the disease.

Both Bruce Atwood and Kathy Geraghty offered Happy Dollars: Bruce for his recent completion of a DYI project and Kathy for spending an entire day with her 2 ½ year-old grandson, providing emergency coverage when child caere plans fell through.

LAST WEEK’S PROGRAM

Todd Allen introduced his daughter, Portland, ME veterinarian Kate Allen, a Cornell Vet School grad who works as a GP for small animals in Portland, ME. In her presentation, we learned that:
  • Annual visits to the vet are crucial for the well-being or your pet. They provide the vet with baseline data, ensure that vaccinations are up to date, and the pet has good dental hygiene.
  • Dental problems are far more common than most pet owners realize and taking care of your pet’s teeth is important, especially small breed dogs
  • There are 38 vet schools in the US and 16 in the world
  • Health insurance for serious health problems for your pet is advisable if it provides you with peace of mind, but insurance for wellness check-ups is not cost effective.
  • All dogs have the same blood type!
  • There is no conclusive evidence about dog’s dreaming… but there is lots of anecdotal evidence that they do so.
  • There are very few instances where regularly bathing a pet is recommended.
  • Tick pills are available for pets.
The presentation addressed all the queries sent in advance and all the emerged during her presentation… and was greatly appreciated by all club members!
