LAST WEEK’S ANNOUNCEMENTS

President Todd Allen reminded stragglers that the interest inventories distributed via email by David Allen were overdue He provided an update on the Board meeting held earlier in the week, announcing that Wayne Gersen was added to the Board since he is serving as Program Chai, Deb Blanc was taking over as Treasurer, and Terri Minelli was granted a leave of absence because of an intense work schedule. Todd also announced that the Rotary Scholarship program might be changing its selection procedures in 2021-22 and that he hoped to arrange for our club to set-up a mutual mentorship program with Dartmouth Roteract students once they return to campus in the Fall.

Todd also announced that based on the results of a recently conducted survey he scheduled a social-distance luncheon meeting at Camp Conniston, a YMCA camp in Grantham on August 26 beginning at noon.

Todd also reminded club members to sign up for a 90 minute slot on the “Mask Up”. This event will distribute 67,000 masks to people in our region on Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8. The Doodle Poll he sent in an email to us has details on the time slots and tasks.

Jed Williamson offered multiple Happy Dollars in response to his relocation at Kendall, to Nan Carroll and Liam McCarthy for selling his house, and for the opportunity to spend time with both of his daughter’s families after 11 years.

David Allen offer a Happy Dollar for granddaughter #2, who had so many names I could not capture them all but whose picture was gorgeous.

Nan Carroll offered a Happy Dollar in honor of super client, Jed Williamson, who kept his house spic and span and bent over backwards to make it presentable!

Todd Allen offered a Happy Dollar in honor of his daughter’s 34th birthday and one for Terri Minelli who’s work schedule is daunting.

LAST WEEK’S PROGRAM

Heather Drinan will introduce her uncle Paul Drinan, who is the  Paul Executive Director of the Friends of Fort Gorges. which is located in the Casco Bay, off Portland, Maine. Paul gave a history of the “3rd System” fort that is designed similar to Forts Ticonderoga and Knox (the one in Maine--- not the one in Kentucky). While it was never garrisoned, it’s constructed to withstand attacks from the Atlantic and hold cannons that would fend off invaders. The Friends of Fort Gorges evolved from two previous groups who attempted to restore the facility and has, to date, been successful at attracting visitors who arrive by ferry or by kayak. The main reason the Friends of Fort Gorges have been successful is that they have forged partnerships with other groups, particularly kayak rental groups and tour providers. The biggest challenge for the group is the cribbing needed to avoid structural problems, a necessary restoration project that does not necessarily yield a visible enhancement to the Fort itself.
