Greg Bazylewicz reminded volunteers for the Stuff-A-Truck this weekend to show up between 10:00 and 2:00.

Bruce Atwood announced that the Lebanon rotary Club would be sponsoring a Mascoma River Clean up on Saturday, September 25 from 9:00 AM until noon.

Kevin Wegner announced that he was still seeking a treasurer for the charities section of our club and more leadership support for the auction.

Dick Podolec announced that the Roterac Club at Dartmouth was growing as more students return to campus and that we need to get more hands-on-deck to provide mentoring.

Wayne Gersen expressed concerns over the fact that several members did not receive the Newsletter that includes the Zoom link and shared a secret: the Zoom link never changes. He hoped to figure out why those listed in the membership section of the Rotary webpage did not receive the emails while others did. (NOTE: It appears that HE goofed and failed to click a box on the final page. 😞)

LAST WEEK’S PROGRAM

Bruce Atwood, standing in for David Allen who is volunteering with the Red Cross in New Orleansintroduced Dartmouth’s Interim AD Peter Roby, offered an update Dartmouth’s athletic programs. Dartmouth’s President Hanlon coaxed Peter Roby out of retirement to serve as interim AD to help address some of the concerns that emerged when Dartmouth tried to reduce its athletic offerings and ran afoul of Title IX. A Dartmouth grad who was a basketball star and later served as AD at Northeastern University, Peter was willing to take the assignment to support his alma mater. Over the past several months, Peter has spent time “mending fences” and building trust among student-athletes, alumni, and the current student body. He reported that the teams will be back in full force this fall and, assuming Covid remains as controlled as it is now, for the balance of the school year.

In response to questions from club members, Peter noted that masks would be required for all sporting events held INDOORS but would be optional for outdoor venues, noting that 98% of Dartmouth’s student body is vaccinated and that vaccinations and testing are required for all athletic participants. He hoped that the FLIP program would reopen when Dartmouth was confident Covid was under control. He indicated that at this juncture he has not been offered the full-time AD assignment nor has he determined whether he will seek it, reminding club members that he came out of retirement solely to help Dartmouth. Finally, he reported that Dartmouth is advising student-athletes to seek advice in deciding whether to market their image because of the complexity of the issue.
