LAST WEEK'S PROGRAM

Dave Allen introduced Ethan Larochelle, Engineers Without Borders and Helen White, a mostly retired community development consultant, who spoke about ACT Honduras. They described how Honduras has been impacted by climate change and how their organization, manned largely by volunteers from the Upper Valley, has helped them secure water and grow decent crops despite the ongoing drought. Dartmouth alumni have helped train leaders to head projects to address the organization’s priorities: medical and dental services; agriculture consultation; the provision of water; and education. The organization was launched in 2008 with an initial focus on water but has since expanded their mission. ACT Honduras needs more than money: they are seeking expertise in construction, library services, agriculture, books-in-Spanish, ESL, tech training.
