THIS WEEK’S PROGRAM

We have no meeting this week. Instead, those who have signed on will feast on Lobster Rolls at Nan Carroll’s domicile in Norwich. As Rod Thomas announced last week there will be no greeters at this event, which means Rotarians will be responsible for checking themselves in and generating and applying their own stick-on name tags.

LAST WEEK’S ANNOUNCEMENTS

Kevin Wenger reminded club members of the need to fill two key positions: the treasurer for the club and someone to help re-launch the auction.

Ginia Allison offered Happy Dollar for the wonderful experience she had at her Birthday celebration spending 15 minutes in conversation with each of those who attended.

Len Cadwallader contributed a Happy Dollar in honor of the retirement of Betsy McClain, a longstanding town administrator who exemplifies the excellence we too often take for granted in the overall management of Hanover.

Sadly, there was no raffle😢

LAST WEEK’S PROGRAM

Greg Bazylewicz introduced Bill Neukomm, whose last day as COVER’s Executive Director was August 31. Bill had several years of service in non-profit rehabilitation organizations before taking the reins at COVER, where he appreciated the great support he received from our club. He presented a slide show that illustrated the kinds of projects COVER undertakes, which are primarily ramps and roofs for low-income residents. He reported that OVER engages 300-400 volunteers per year. He indicated that during the pandemic, when indoor renovations were impossible, COVER shifted its focus to delivering food, working to build raised bed gardens, and keeping in touch with those COVER typically served. They also created outdoor food shelves that helped provide food for those who were reluctant or unable to go to indoor venues.

In response to questions, Bill offered details on the weatherization projects and consultations COVER offers, emphasizing the importance of inexpensive but consequential projects like sealing windows. He encouraged that Stuff-a-Truck contributions be “functional and operational” with a focus on tools that COVER clients can use to help in the various projects. He indicated that COVER would pick up some items but only if those items are marketable.
