LAST WEEK’S ANNOUNCEMENTS

In pre-meeting informal announcements, Ginia Allison announced that her daughter, Perry, was on the mend from her brain tumor as demonstrated by her ability to name 31 fruits and vegetables in a 2 minute period!

Len Cadwallader announced that two trees from his family homestead in Wallingford VT would be prominently displayed this Christmas: one on the Dartmouth Green in Hanover and one on the Capitol grounds in Montpelier.

Todd Allen awarded a virtual Paul Harris +6 pin to Stan Williams. Congratulations, StanTodd also announced that the Town of Hanover is seeking volunteers to help put up the one of the many Christmas trees that will be decorating Main Street this year. Finally, Todd announced that the club will be receiving 2,000 more masks to distribute to community members and that the Board would be deciding how to distribute them when they meet next week. And last, but certainly not least, Todd shared memorable PSA videos featuring Bruce Atwood, Nan Carroll, and himself. He did this as an inspiration to other members to pitch in and produce their own. The bar is not particularly high...

Jim Bonney offered a Happy Dollar in appreciation of Wayne Gersen’s op ed articles which appear from time to time in the local newspaper. , who was appearing in a box from Manitou Springs, CO, offered two Happy Dollars for the arrival of his twin grandchildren.

Dick Podolec introduced Bill Bittinger who will be joining our club VERY soon… maybe even this week!

The Raffle Management Team awarded the $10 in-kind donation to Rubi Simon after she answered an extraordinarily difficult number guessing quiz correctly on the first try!

LAST WEEK’S PROGRAM

Todd Allen introduced Arnon Mishkin, Fox News’ pollster who offered a data-packed presentation that included several enlightening off the record musings about the polling process and the demographics behind the results. I could attempt to provide a blow-by-blow recounting of the talk, but encourage you to view it for yourself by accessing this link:

The most compelling information for me was that had 70,000 votes shifted in five key states we would be witnessing a second term for Donald Trump… despite the fact that now President-elect Biden would have received 5,000,000+ more votes. The other takeaway for me was that there was no clear demographic slice that swung the vote one way or the other. The voters’ patterns matched the prognosticators predictions but in the end just enough fence sitters fell to Biden in the swing states to get him the victory and those fence sitters came from every category.

Thanks to Todd for lining up Arnon! We had a record Zoom attendance of 33 boxes and several boxes had more than one face in them!
