THIS WEEK’S PROGRAM

Is it possible for a corporation to make money AND support the well-being of the community? The answer for those who work in a B-Corp certified business is an unequivocal “YES”. Wayne Gersen will introduce Mascoma Bank Benefit Administrator Samantha Pause who will describe what it takes to become certified as a B-Corp… a “new kind of business that balances purpose and profit.”

LAST WEEK'S ANNOUNCEMENTS

Tom Csatari introduced three guests of Rotarians, each of whom was considering membership in the future, and encouraged Rotarians to invite more prospects to join them in the future. He also indicated that he hoped to have a final decision on the April social that is tentatively scheduled for April 3.

Wayne Gersen made yet another pitch to board members whose businesses had not purchased ads for placemats in the past. At $65 for one block, $90 for 2 blocks, $125 for 3 blocks, and $225 for 6-blocks it’s a bargain… but time is running out!

Ralph Manuel won the raffle, which was a $25 gift certificate for the Dirt Cowboy, more than enough to get he and a friend a triple-espresso-double-decaf-latte-with-whipped-cream and pocket $.25 in change!

Two members offered Happy Dollars: Phil McCaull on behalf of two more Hanover High School Girls’ Champions—one in hockey and one in basketball; and, Tom Csatari in recognition of yet another open house that his law firm Downs Rachlin Markin (DRM) will be holding.

LAST WEEK'S PROGRAM

Bob Donin introduced Allie Levy, who will be opening Still North, Hanover’s first Bookstore/Wine Bar in the rear part of the vacated Dartmouth Bookstore. Allie opened her talk by asking Rotarians to share the titles of their favorite books, seeking our input because she intends to gear the books on her shelves to the tastes of local readers. She showed the floor plan of her business, shared pictures of the ongoing renovation, and described the wines and a wide array of local craft beers that will be offered in her unique store. An avid reader from childhood who majored in English at Dartmouth, Allie is returning to the Upper Valley after working for EMS in New York City, and the Alpine Club and a “book bar” in Denver. She was intending to return to New York City when she learned that the Dartmouth book store was closing saw an opportunity for her to fill a niche in the region. Allieanticipates opening in the fall and currently plans to b open from 10am to 10pm. Still North will seat 35-40 people, will offer space for book clubs to meet and provide a place for people to try a wide array of beverages seated among books. She asked that Rotarians who are interested in the bookstore/wine bar to feel free to get in touch with her at allie@stillnorthbooks.com. She welcomes any feedback on her idea and book titles that we might want to see in on the shelves.
